TROJANS FINISH OFF IU-SOUTHEAST
Taylor Baseball pounded out two wins Saturday to finish off a four game set against IU-Southeast with a 3-1 record. The Trojan offense was on display, posting 7-5 and 20-14 victories. With the sweep, Taylor moves to 7-4 on the year.
In game one, TU's 11 hits and clutch hitting allowed Caleb Stertzer to pick up the win in relief. Stertzer allowed one hit and struck out 2 while pitching 1 and 2/3 innings in relief of starter Zach Vander Laan. Michael Kraynak picked up his third save of the season with a perfect seventh inning.
Pacing the Trojans at the plate were upperclassmen Matt Maple and Nate Hillery, who each went 2-4 in the game. Hillery hit a 2-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to break a 5-5 tie, allowing him to finish with 3 RBI's. Freshman Michael Nassar also made his impact felt with a 2-for-3 day which included a homerun and 2 RBIs.
In the finale, Taylor's batsmen put on a show. Garnering an impressive 20 runs, en route to a 20-14 win. The damage was done after only 3 innings as the Trojans scored 4 in the first, 10 in the second, and 5 in the third. Six Trojans recorded multiple hits, and Cassidy Emery and Ryne Otis finished the day with 5 RBIs each.
Matt Kirkendale picked up the win in relief. He pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing no earned runs on 3 hits with one strikeout for his second win on the year.
Taylor moves on with a 7-4 record to face Anderson (0-2) on Tuesday, March 10 at 2 p.m.
