TAYLOR BOUNCES BACK AGAINST SAINTS
After a disappointing loss on Tuesday, the Taylor baseball team bounced back with a solid day, splitting a pair of games with Siena Heights. Taylor controlled game one, breezing to a 9-1 win. In game two a low scoring affair left the Trojans on the wrong side of the scoreboard, losing 2-1.
In game one, sophomore ace Zach Vander Laan pitched another complete game. Allowing just one run on five hits and striking out four, Vander Laan controlled the game. He also did not walk a batter on the way to his fourth win of the season. Zach is a perfect 4-0 on the season.
Leading the way for the Trojan offense once again was Ryne Otis. After tallying two home runs at Manchester on Tuesday, he went 2-3 with 4 RBIs against the Saints. Also providing power for Taylor were seniors Paul Passiales and Braden Dissinger. Passiales pounded 3 hits and scored twice, while Dissinger added two hits.
In game two the offense was not quite as potent, a well played game still ended up a loss as the Saints took game two, 2-1.
Travis Carsten only allowed one earned run giving up 9 hits in the complete game 7-inning outing. Unfortunately the Trojans could not put enough runs on the scoreboard.
Taylor Kinzer tried to help the offensive cause, going 2-2 with a run scored to lead the offense. Cassidy Emery continued to hit well, recording the lone RBI for TU.
After the split, Taylor's record rises to 10-6 with one series left before a Spring Break trip through Georgia to play some of the top teams in the NAIA. TU hosts a doubleheader against the Eagles from Cincinnati Christian College on Thursday at 1 p.m.
