UPLAND, Ind. - Adam Sauder and Brandon Haan played pivotal roles in helping Taylor open its 2014 home schedule with a 23-13 upset of No. 17 Saint Ambrose and have each been named as Mid-States Football Association Players of the Week.
Sauder was named the MSFA Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week after picking up seven solo hits among his team-leading nine tackles and helping end three-straight, fourth-quarter Saint Ambrose drives on turnovers to preserve the Taylor lead. On successive possessions, Sauder forced a fumble on the TU 21-yard line, elevated for an interception in the end zone and pressured the SAU quarterback into a rushed pass that was intercepted on the Trojans' two-yard line.
Haan was named the MSFA Mideast League Special Teams Player of the Week after pinning the Fighting Bees inside their own 20-yard line on four of his 10 punt attempts. Haan stuck SAU on its own one-yard marker on back-to-back punts in the first quarter, with the first leading to a safety three plays later.
Sauder and Haan are the second Trojan due in as many weeks to be highlighted by the MSFA, after Cody Schwerin and Wynn Coggin were honored one week ago for their performances in Taylor's 56-10 win at Anderson.
Taylor (2-1) will look continue its strong play when it heads to NCAA Division I FCS Butler on Saturday, September 20 at 6:00 pm. Fans can listen to the action live by accessing the free Trojan Sports Network broadcast at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/taylor.
