COLUMBIA, Ky. – Taylor took the court for the first time since improving to 21-0 on Silent Night and suffered an 86-69 neutral court loss to NAIA Division I No. 21 Campbellsville in the first game of the Lindsey Wilson Christmas Classic.
Taylor opened the action with a three ball but the Tigers ripped off the next 15 points and later used a 17-1 stretch to help open a 40-13 gap with 3:15 to play in the opening half and doubled up TU by a 42-21 margin at the break.
Taylor shot 29.6 percent in the opening half and ended at just 41.0 percent in a game that was never closer than 15 points throughout the second period.
Jake Heggeland was the lone starter with more than one make from the field, ending with 11 points and seven rebounds. James McCloud turned in a career night off the bench by going eight-of-eight from the floor for 16 points and nine rebounds, while Vincent Miranda knocked down five triples to close with a career-best 15 points and Ryan Robinson added 12 points and three assists.
TU allowed its opponent to reach the 80-point plateau for the sixth-straight game and fell to 2-4 in that stretch with the 17-point defeat to Campbellsville (12-1).
No. 24 Taylor (9-4) will face another stiff challenge on Saturday, when it takes on NAIA Division I No. 9 Lindsey Wilson (13-0) in a 5:00 pm (ET) start.
