Lamping, Waskom Notch Top-Ten Finishes at Blackthorn
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - With identical two-day totals of 5-over par 149, Taylor freshmen Mitch Lamping and Nick Waskom finished tied for sixth at the Battle of Blackthorn.
Lamping followed up his stellar first round of 1-under 71 with a second round 78 to earn his first career top-ten finish while Waskom played steady rounds of 74 and 75 to also collect the first top-ten finish of his young career. The duo helped lead Taylor to a fifth place finish in the 15-team field as the Trojans carded the third lowest round of the day at 306 in windy conditions on Saturday's final round at Blackthorn Golf Club.
Junior Stefan Fahlen followed up his first round 78 with a 76 in round two to finish at +10 for the tournament and in a tie for 18th place. Freshman Trey Turner bounced back from a disappointing opening round 81 to card a 77 in the final round and finish tied for 32nd in the 80-player field.

Bethel claimed the team title with a blistering final round 295 for a two-day total of 596 (+20). Saint Francis (Ill.) climbed the leaderboard with a solid round of 302 on Saturday to finish tied for second with Holy Cross at 607 (+31). Marian held off Taylor for fourth place at 609 (+33) while the Trojans finished one shot behind the Knights at 610 (+34).
Taylor finished ahead of Crossroads League teams Grace (616), Saint Francis (629), and Huntington (653).
The Trojans' next event is the Arnie's Intercollegiate held at Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada, Mich., on Oct. 6-7.
