No. 23 Trojans Win Weather-Shortened USF Invitational
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The 23rd-ranked Taylor men's golf team collected its third tournament title of the 2015-16 season on Saturday after final round play in the USF Invitational was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Trojans carded a round of 305 during Friday's first round to take the lead and ultimately win the tournament after the final round was cancelled.
Junior Ian Rinken and sophomore Mitch Lamping each carded rounds of 73 (+1) to lead the Trojans during the first round played at Autumn Ridge Golf Course. Rinken and Lamping finished tied with teammate Nick Waskom for individual medalist honors. Taylor also counted a 78 from freshman Alec Dutkowski and an 81 from sophomore Trey Turner for a team score of 305 while freshman Chase Picken was the TU drop score with an 86 in round one.
Waskom's 73 led the Taylor "B" team to a team score of 314 while the second squad also got a 77 from senior Stefan Fahlen and a trio of 82's from juniors Seth Neal, Nathan Edwards, and Jordan Hall. Junior Josh Stimmel also competed and finished with a 92 while playing as an individual.
Taylor defeated Indiana Tech by three shots with Indiana Wesleyan (310), Grace (314), and Trine (315) rounding out the top five. Taylor also won the USF Fall Invitational and claimed the title at the Arnie's Intercollegiate during the fall season as well. Taylor had recorded back-to-back runner-up finishes to open the spring season prior to Saturday's victory.
