SILVIS, Ill. – Taylor standout Alec Dutkowski capped his sophomore season with a fourth place finish at the NAIA National Championship on Friday at TPC Deere Run Golf Course.
Dutkowski, who entered the final round in a tie for fifth place, battled pounding rain and strong winds during Friday's final 18 holes but managed to fire the third best round in the 94-player field with a 3-over par 74 that featured three birdies, three bogeys, and a triple bogey on the par-4 11th.
The Wakarusa, Indiana native finished the 72-hole tournament with a total score of 10-over par 294 (73-77-70-74) to claim a tie for fourth place, marking the best-ever finish for a Taylor golfer at the NAIA National Championship. Texas Wesleyan's Rowan Lester claimed the individual title at 3-over par followed by Ben Kendrick (+6) of Cumberlands (Ky.) and Myles Pfingsten (+8) of Grand View.
Dutkowski earned a spot on the NAIA All-Tournament team and secured an automatic bid as an individual to the 2018 NAIA National Championship by finishing inside the top 15.
