Trojans Post Strong Finish at Bill Bockwitz Classic
JACKSON, Mich. – The eighth-ranked Taylor men's golf team carded the low team score of the day during the final round of the Bill Bockwitz Classic at The Grande Golf Club on Tuesday.
Senior All-American Alec Dutkowski posted a 1-under par 71 to pace the Trojans during the final round. TU also counted a pair of 72's from sophomore Brady Roberts and freshman Lucas Beck while senior Jeremy Ray and junior Nate Morris tallied 75's as the Trojans posted a score of 2-over par 290.
Although Taylor had the best score of the final round the Trojans were unable to overtake tournament champion Wayne State or runner-up Saint Francis. Wayne State carded a three-round total of 875 (288-294-293) to edge Saint Francis by one shot (287-293-296). Taylor finishes third at 890 (303-297-290).
Dutkowski collected his third top-3 finish in as many starts this fall as the senior finished in third place with a three-round total of 1-over par 217 (71-75-71). Ray (73-75-75) finished tied with junior Scottie Marston (73-69-81) in ninth place at 223.
Beck was next on the individual leaderboard in a tie for 17th at 226 (81-73-72) while Morris finished one shot back in a tie for 19th place at 227 (78-74-75).
Freshman Jason Iler was impressive in his collegiate debut with a tie for 22nd place at 228 (80-73-75) while fellow freshman Daylen Tidd carded the first under-par round of his career during Tuesday's final round to finish in a tie for 50th place at 241 (81-89-71). Freshman Sam Yeager added a round of 78 on Tuesday to tie with Tidd at 241 (80-83-78) while sophomore Keegan White posted a career-low round of 76 to finish in 60th place at 249 (85-88-76). Junior Noah Miller battled his swing in posting a 276 (92-85-99).
The Trojans have now finished in the top three of all three events so far this fall with a pair of runner-up finishes and a third place. The Trojans return to action on October 8-9 as TU hosts the Egypt Valley Championship at Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada, Michigan.
