Trojans Finish T-2 at Whistling Straits
KOHLER, Wisc. – The Taylor men's golf team posted the second best team score in the field to climb the leaderboard and claim a second place finish at the Whistling Straits Championship on Tuesday.
The 10th-ranked Trojans weathered cold and windy conditions during Tuesday's final round to post a team score of 306 on the iconic Straits Course at Whistling Straits, the site of the 2020 Ryder Cup.
Senior All-American Alec Dutkowski carded a second-round 74 to lead the Trojans on the final day. Dutkowski posted a two-round total of 148 (74-74) to finish in a tie for second place behind Victor Miron (71-75) of Texas Wesleyan.
Junior Nate Morris claimed a top-10 finish as well, posting rounds of 72 and 77 to finish in seventh place with a two-day total of 149. Morris tied for second in the 87-player field in par-5 scoring at 3-under for the tournament.
Freshman Lucas Beck conditioned his strong play with a tie for 14th place at 153 (76-77). Beck finished tied for the best par-3 scoring mark in the field at 2-under for the tournament.
Junior Scottie Marston added a final round 78 and senior Jeremy Ray tallied a final round 79 to round out the scoring for TU.
The Trojans entered Tuesday's final round in a tie for fifth place but Taylor played steady golf amid challenging conditions to steadily climb the leaderboard and finish tied for second place with Midland at 613. Fourth-ranked Texas Wesleyan rolled to the team title with a two-round total of 593 (289-304) while Taylor finished ahead of No. 14 Bellevue (300+325=625), No. 21 Indiana Wesleyan (314+318=632), and No. 23 Cardinal Stritch (323-315=638) along with #RV Holy Cross and #RV Sterling.
Taylor will return to action in the spring.
