Trojans Lead After Day One at Purgatory
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The Taylor men's golf team carded its lowest score of the season on Friday, firing a 4-under par 284 to take the lead after the first round of the Purgatory Intercollegiate.
Senior All-American Alec Dutkowski and freshman Lucas Beck each tallied 3-under par 69's to pace TU in the opening round. The Trojans also counted a 71 from senior Jeremy Ray while junior Nate Morris added a 75 and junior Scottie Marston tallied a 76 for Taylor.
The Trojans hold a 1-shot lead over No. 3 Dalton State (285) and a 4-shot lead over No. 16 Missouri Valley (288) heading into Saturday's final round.
The Trojans also got solid play from the reserve squad with sophomore Brady Roberts firing a 73 followed by freshman Jason Iler at 74. Freshman Javan Johnson added a career-low 75 followed by classmate Daylen Tidd with a 77 and Sam Yeager at 78. Junior Noah Miller added an 83 for TU as the Taylor reserve squad carded a team tally of 299 to finish tied for 10th place in the 18-team field.
Dalton State's Ben Rebne and Parkland Community College's Evan MacLean are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 5-under par. Dutkowski and Beck are tied for third, two shots behind at 3-under par while Ray is tied for eighth place entering the final round.
The Trojans return to action on Saturday for the final round of the Purgatory Intercollegiate with action slated to begin at 10:00 am.
