Trojans Take Title at Egypt Valley
ADA, Mich. – The freshman duo of Erik Fahlen and Drew Pickering led the No. 10 Taylor men's golf team to its second tournament title of the season on Tuesday at the Egypt Valley Intercollegiate.
Fahlen and Pickering finished the 54-hole event with scores of 223 (+7) to earn a tie for third place on the individual leaderboard, one shot behind the tournament co-champions, Payton Kelly from Grace College and Rory Myers from Spring Arbor.
Pickering carded the low round of the day for the Trojans on Tuesday with a 2-over par 74. TU also counted a pair of 76's from Fahlen and junior Brady Roberts while senior Nate Morris tallied an 82 as the Trojans shot a team score of 308 during the final round.
Taylor finished with a 54-hole team score of 898 (293-297-308) to roll over runner-up Grace by 18 shots. The Lancers (916) were followed by Wheaton (938) and Roosevelt (944). Spring Arbor finished fifth at 949 followed by Grand Rapids Community College (954), the Taylor reserve squad (962), and Bethel (1,021).
As a team, Taylor led the field in par-3, par-4, and par-5 scoring, including an impressive par-5 scoring total of 4-under par. The Trojans also led the field in birdies with 38.
Sophomore Jason Iler collected a top-10 finish for TU with a tie for eighth place at 229 (75-77-77) followed by Morris in tenth place at 230 (73-75-82). Roberts took 14th place at 234 (75-83-76) while sophomore Sam Yeager earned a top-20 finish, taking 18th place at 238 (79-80-79).
Freshman Noah Ross tied for 26th place at 255 (83-82-79) followed by junior Keegan White in 35th place at 251 (78-91-82) and senior Noah Miller in 45th place at 281 (87-95-99).
The tournament title is Taylor second victory in four starts this fall.
The Trojans will close out the fall portion of the season with a trip to Kohler, Wisconsin and Whistling Straits for the Whistling Straits Championship on October 22-23.
