Trojans Capture Chariot Run Challenge
LACONIA, Ind. – The Taylor men's golf team cruised to a 13-shot victory at the Chariot Run Challenge.
The 16th-ranked Trojans tallied a final round team score of 300 to claim the tournament title at Chariot Run Golf Club, the site of the 2022 Crossroads League Championship.
Sophomore Adam Kasitz claimed a runner-up finish with a three round total of 4-under par 212. Kasitz entered the final round with the lead and birdied his final hole, the par-5 18th, to post a closing 72 but Midway's Hayes Mason fired a blistering final round 67 to finish at 6-under par and claim the title.
The Trojans also got a solid final round from junior Drew Pickering who tallied a 2-over par 74. Pickering hit one of the shots of the tournament during his final round when he hit a 5-iron to tap-in range for an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole. Pickering tied for sixth place at 4-over par 220 with rounds of 77, 69, and 74.
Junior Noah Ross battled back from a rough start, playing his final six holes at 3-under par to post a 5-over par 77 during the final round. Ross tied with Pickering for sixth place at 220 with rounds of 72, 71, and 77.
Freshman Tommy McWatters added a final round 77 as well for the Trojans.
Junior Javan Johnson withdrew from the final round.
Taylor did most of its damage on the par-5's, playing those holes at 20-under par for the tournament. Ross played the par-5's at 8-under, the second best mark in the field while Kasitz was 7-under on par-5's. Kasitz also led the field in par-3 scoring at 1-under par.
The win marked the third victory of the fall for the Trojans. Taylor fired a team score of 873 (+9) to edge Marian at 886 (+22). Spring Arbor (890, +26) finished in third followed by Midway (894, +30) and Indiana Wesleyan (909, +45).
