Ross Leads Trojans at Prestigious Roadrunner Classic
DALTON, Ga. – Facing the strongest field the NAIA has to offer this season, the No. 18 Taylor men's golf team held its own, defeating a pair of ranked teams at the Roadrunner Classic.
Junior Noah Ross led the charge for the Trojans at the prestigious event, carding a three-round total of 217 with rounds of 76-68-73 to finish tied for seventh place. Ross was dominant on the par-5's at the 7,035-yard, par-72 layout of The Farm Golf Club, finishing third in the field in par-5 scoring for the tournament at 5-under par. The T-7 finish marked the fifth top-ten of the season for the junior from Upland, Indiana.
Redshirt Junior Javan Johnson added rounds of 75-75-83 to finished T-45 followed by junior Drew Pickering who finished T-51 with tallies of 78-80-77. Pickering's tournament featured a pair of eagles, one at the par-5 12th and the other on the par-4 first hole. Sophomore Adam Kasitz was close behind at 236 with scores of 81-77-78 while junior Erik Fahlen signed for scores of 77-82-78 to finish T-55.
The Trojans managed team scores of 306-300-306 to finish with a 54-hole total of 912. The Trojans finished in tenth place in the 12-team field in which all 12 teams were ranked inside the NAIA Top-25. Taylor finished ahead of No. 10 Wayland Baptist and No. 14 SCAD Savannah.
Top-ranked Keiser lapped the field for the team title while Keiser's Jack Maxey took home medalist honors with a three-round total of 7-under par 209 (71-67-71).
Taylor will return to action on April 15-16 when the Trojans travel to Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Indiana for the Pilot Invitational hosted by Bethel College.
