Lane Posts Straight-Set Victory in Fall Finale

UPLAND, Ind. – Tyler Lane posted a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles as the Taylor University men's tennis team hosted its final dual match of the fall campaign. The Trojans (2-3) fell to visiting Anderson 6-1 at the Taylor Tennis Complex.

Lane controlled the top singles match from start to finish, defeating Ezekiel Bergen 6-1 in the opening set before closing out the match with a 6-4 triumph in the second stanza.

Joseph Harper and Joshua Dawson secured TU's lone doubles victory with a 7-5 result, outlasting Davis Borders and Luis Angel Guerrero Lara at the No. 2 doubles slot.

Lane and Graham Beukelman nearly pulled out the victory at No. 1 doubles, coming up just shot in a narrow 6-4 decision.

Beukelman also battled for the Trojans at No. 2 singles, opening the matchup with a 6-4 victory in the first set before AU's Martin Suarez leveled the score at one set apiece after pulling out the second-set tiebreaker 7-4. Suarez then outlasted Beukelman 10-6 to claim the super tiebreaker point.

Harper nearly extended his match to three sets at No. 3 singles by forcing a second-set tiebreaker before AU's Pedro Alves Sette prevailed 6-4, 7-6(7-3).

TU concludes the fall portion of its schedule and will prepare for the spring campaign set to begin at Ball State in early February.
