Beukelman Notches Singles Victory Over SAU
UPLAND, Ind. – Graham Beukelman notched a hard-fought point at No. 3 singles as Taylor (4-9, 1-5 CL) fell 6-1 to Spring Arbor (8-9, 2-4 CL) in Crossroads League men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Taylor Tennis Complex.
SAU claimed all three doubles flights to take the early 1-0 lead in the match. Andrei Negrut and Aziz Madatov defeated Beukelman and Tyler Lane 6-2 at No. 1, Jaume Riera Galindo and Daniel Rodriguez Fortes topped Joseph Harper and Matthew Williams 6-2 at No. 2, and MacKinley McNalley and Jakub Sevcik defeated Ian Helfert and Andrew Roth 6-0 at No. 3.
Beukelman delivered the highlight of the day for the Trojans at No. 3 singles, rallying after a second-set loss to defeat Sevcik 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-2) in a super tiebreaker. The sophomore, who ranks second on TU with 15 singles sets won this season, gutted out the tight defeat in the second set and finished the third-set tiebreaker with authority to secure the Trojans' lone point.
Lane, TU's team leader with 20 singles sets won on the year, fell 6-2, 6-1 to Madatov at the top flight. Harper dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Rodriguez Fortes at No. 2. Senior Ian Helfert competed at No. 4, falling 6-2, 6-4 to McNalley, while Josh Dawson fell 6-2, 6-4 to Kaytar at No. 5. Josh Clegg rounded out the lineup at the sixth flight.
TU has three matches remaining in the regular season, beginning Saturday, April 11 when the Trojans travel to Saint Francis for an 11 a.m. match.
