AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League recently announced its Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor, naming TU's Derek Van Prooyen this week's recipient.
Van Prooyen won on his home course Friday evening at the Ray Bullock Invite, leading a field of 171 runners. The experienced senior fought through the heat and hills and posted a time of 25:31.3 to secure the win. The Munster, Indiana native and two other Trojan seniors led the race and finished at the top of the field, helping the No. 1-ranked Trojans win the overall team victory.
This is Van Prooyen's first Crossroads League Cross Country Runner of the Week honor during his Taylor career. This is the second-consecutive Crossroads League weekly honor received by the Taylor men's cross country team, as Daniel Gerber received the award last week.
Van Prooyen and the No. 1 Trojans (24-1) will return to the course for the Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday morning, October 2.
