UPLAND, Ind. – The Crossroads League has announced its latest collection of weekly awards, in which Taylor softball player, Ashton Whitman, was honored as the Softball Player of the Week.
The award marks Whitman's first-career Crossroads League Athlete-of-the-Week honor, highlighting a week in which the senior catcher went 10-18 at the dish while recording a hit in each of TU's six games played.
Whitman's big week was ignited by a three-hit game against No. 16 Marian (18-5, 8-4 CL), in which she belted a home run and a double en route to two RBI and two runs scored.
The Kalamazoo, Michigan, native then went on to record a hit in the following five games, and in so doing extended her current hit-streak to 13 games in-a-row. Even more impressively, Whitman has only not posted a hit in three games this season, meaning that she has hit safely in 20 of Taylor's 23 games played.
Not surprisingly Whitman has wielded Taylor's most-consistent bat throughout the year, leading the team in a plethora of categories including batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits and RBI, while also sharing the team-lead in doubles and home runs.
Furthermore, this week's award-winner sits in the league's top-10 with her .412 batting average, and even finds herself in the top-five with a .474 on-base percentage.
Whitman's Player-of-the-Week nod is the 34th for Taylor athletes thus far in the 2021-2022 athletic year and the second for TU softball, as Whitman joins teammate, Aleyah Rastetter, as the two Trojans to receive the honor.
Taylor (12-11, 9-3 CL) is set to return to action, led by the hot bat of Whitman, Monday afternoon, when the Trojans are set to host a doubleheader against St. Francis (12-8, 4-4 CL) at 4:00 pm ET.
