AVON, Ohio – Four Trojans were named 2018-2019 All-Crossroads League performers on Wednesday. Kendall Bradbury topped the list as the Crossroads League Player of the Year, while head coach Jody Martinez was recognized as the CL Coach of the Year.
Taylor has put together an incredible season under Martinez, who was voted as the Crossroads League Coach of the Year. Martinez led the team to its first Crossroads League regular season title since 1996 and tournament championship since 1998, while picking up a program record 16 league victories along the way.
In his second season at the helm, Martinez has directed the most successful stretch of games in program history. Heading into the NAIA National Tournament, TU maintains a 20 game winning streak, while matching the program record with 28 wins on the season. Martinez also holds an impressive 52-15 record at Taylor, which marks the best two year span in over 20 years.
Kendall Bradbury added to her illustrious career on Wednesday, corralling the Crossroads League Player-of-the-Year award and her third-consecutive First-Team All-Crossroads League selection. Bradbury became the second student-athlete to nab the player-of-the-year honor in program history and the third Trojan to pick up three first-team recognitions in her career.
The 5-11 forward started in all 32 games for TU and was not only the top scorer in the Crossroads League but led the NAIA in total points and points per game through the season, posting 726 points and averaging 22.7 points per game. Also making an impact on the glass, Bradbury grabbed 9.1 boards per game, which led to 16 double-doubles on the year and 51 in her career.
The Highlands Ranch, Colorado native also made her mark on the record books, setting TU's all-time career scoring mark after posting 27 points against Olivet Nazarene. Bradbury did not stop there, passing Natalie Young to become the Crossroads League all-time career leading scorer with 2,778 career points.
For the first time in 18 years, Taylor placed two players on the all-conference first-team as Becca Buchs was voted as a top five player in the Crossroads League. Buchs had a breakout season, starting in all 32 games with excellent long range shooting and overall scoring to notch her first All-Crossroads League honor.
The junior guard rated first in the NAIA with a 46.6 three point field goal percentage. Efficiency and volume made Buchs a lethal shooter from the outside, as she has drained 103 treys on the season, tying TU's program record for one season.
Buchs has made a significant jump from her sophomore to junior season, pouring in 345 more points, while tripling her field goals and quadrupling her three pointers. The Angola, Indiana native also boasted consistency in the scoring column, posting a double-digit scoring effort in her last 13 games.
Aubrey Wright was distinguished as a Third-Team All-Crossroads League standout. Wright did everything for the Trojans in her senior campaign, playing and starting in all 32 games and ranking amongst the top four on the team in every statistical category.
The Columbia City, Indiana native excelled on both ends of the court, leading TU with a career-high 136 assists, 50 steals and 22 blocks. Wright always maintained active hands on defense, snagging multiple steals in 12 games, including a career-high six steals against Marian on January 23.
Abby Buchs notched an All-Crossroads League Honorable Mention on Wednesday, following an impressive season from the junior. Buchs has put together a well-rounded campaign, starting in 30-of-32 games, while averaging 12.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
The Angola, Indiana native offered solid shooting nights throughout the season, sinking multiple treys in 16 contests. Buchs could not miss in a career night against Madonna, netting a career-high 24 points, while going a perfect nine-for-nine from the field.
The All-Crossroads League honors are voted on by the 10 head coaches from around the league and announced by the Crossroad League office.
