JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League announced its latest installment of weekly awards, in which Taylor Westgate received the first Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week honor of her career.
Westgate was chosen as the league's top performer while posting 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, all the while shooting a sharp 51.6-percent clip from the floor as the Trojans went 2-0.
TU's stud forward was also effective with the dish, as Westgate recorded six assists, alongside 19 points and 13 rebounds, in Taylor's 20-point win over Huntington. Westgate completed a three-game stretch of six-or-more assists against the Foresters, bumping her season average up to 3.6 assists per game.
Though it is the scoring numbers that make Westgate stand apart from most of the league. After the 19-point performance in TU's win over Huntington, Westgate followed with a 17-point effort en route to a Taylor win at Bethel. By week's end, Westgate's season-scoring average leveled at the league's second-best mark of 18.3 points per game.
Westgate has shot the ball incredibly well of late, not only racking up the points but doing so with high shooting percentages. Throughout the last four games, Westgate has scored on 30 of 53 total shots taken, which spits out an impressive percentage of 56.6.
Meanwhile, Westgate has continued the strong play in the paint from her sophomore season, averaging the league's sixth-best mark thus far in 2022 with an average of 9.3 rebounds per game. While scoring in double digits in each of TU's 10 games this season, Westgate has reached double-digit rebounds in four, granting her a quartet of double doubles.
Taylor athletes have now combined for a total of 29 Crossroads League or MSFA Player-of-the-Week awards in 2022-2023.
Westgate and Trojans are slated to return to the court on Wednesday, December 7, at 7:00 pm, when they host Calumet College of Saint Joseph (0-5) for a non-league matchup.
