Trojans, Jung Collect Hardware at Players Club Invitational

YORKTOWN, Ind. – The Taylor women's golf team tied the school record for the lowest 36-hole total in program history its way to a dominant 28-shot victory at The Players Club Invitational on Saturday.
The Trojans fired a team tally of 298 in round one of the 36-hole tournament held at The Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Indiana and added a final round 305 to tie the lowest 36-hole tournament total in program history with a two-round score of 603.
The victory was TU's fourth straight win to open the 2018-2019 season as the Trojans finished 28 shots clear of second place #RV Indiana Wesleyan (309+322=631). Taylor also bested fellow Crossroads League foe #RV Saint Francis (317+317=634), Olivet Nazarene (323+319=642), and No. 23 Bethel (323+321=644).
Sophomore All-American Nicole Jung continued to etch her name in the TU record books by posting the lowest 18-hole score in TU history with a 2-under par 70 in the opening round. The Santa Cruz, Bolivia native added a 77 in round two to finish at 3-over par 147 and claim her the fifth tournament title of her career.
Junior All-American Maddie Thomas finished in second place with an opening round 73 followed by a final round 76. Sophomore Taylor French posted the lowest score in round two with a 2-over par 74 to finish in tied for third place at 152 (78-74). Senior Elizabeth Jackson recorded her best finish of the season with a tie for eighth place at 155 (77-78) while junior Annie Stimmel finished tied for 11th place at 158 (79-79).
The Trojans continued the solid play up and down the line-up as senior Raquel Helton finished tied for 25th at 166 (79-87) followed by sophomore Rachel Coers at 168 (83-85), and freshman Annie Eisenbarth at 179 (88-91). Sophomore Mariah Williams tallied a career-low round of 90 in round one and added a 96 in round two to finish in 51st place while junior Lauren Murphy finished in 56th place at 191 (96-95).
Taylor will close out its fall season on Oct. 22-23 when the Trojans travel to Kohler, Wisconsin for the Whistling Straits Championship.
