Jung Collects Hardware, Leads Trojans in Savannah
SAVANNAH, Georgia – Sophomore Nicole Jung collected the sixth victory of her collegiate career to lead the Taylor women's golf team at the Clash at Crosswinds.
Jung dissected the 5,867-yard, par-72 layout of Crosswinds Golf Club during Saturday's final round, posting 14 pars, two bogeys, and two birdies to post an even-par 72. The Santa Cruz, Bolivia native's final-round 72 was five shots better than the next best score in the 56-player field.
The All-American finished four shots clear of second place with a two-round total of 147 (75-72) and erased a 3-shot deficit in the final round to collect the hardware.
The Trojans found themselves in a 3-way tie for second place following an opening round team tally of 320. Faulkner started the final round 13-shots clear of the pack in second place that included No. 14 Taylor as well as No. 5 University of the Cumberlands, and No. 23 Cumberland (TN).
The Trojans used a final-round surge to chase down Faulkner and force a team playoff. Faulkner edged TU on the second hole of the team playoff to claim the hardware while the teams officially finish tied atop the leaderboard.
Junior All-American Maddie Thomas collected her seventh top-10 finish of the season with a tie for seventh place at 160 (82-78). Sophomore Taylor French finished tied for 17th place at 165 (84-81) along with senior Elizabeth Jackson (82-83). Junior Annie Stimmel rounded out the scoring for the Taylor with a tie for 36th place at 172 (81-91).
The Taylor reserve squad also posted solid scores led by freshman Annie Eisenbarth in a tie for 28th place at 168 (85-83). Senior Raquel Helton finished at 172 (84-88) followed by sophomore Rachel Coers at 176 (88-88) and junior Alexis Harris at 184 (92-92).
Taylor finished with a two-round total of 634 (320-314) to tie Faulkner atop the leaderboard. Fifth-ranked Cumberlands (KY) finished in third at 641 (320-321) followed by No. 13 Southeastern at 648 (329-319), No. 22 Cumberland (TN) at 652 (320-332), #RV SCAD-Atlanta at 657 (325-332) and #RV Campbellsville at 681 (339-342).
The Trojans have now finished at the top of the team standings in six of seven events this season. Taylor will return to action next weekend as the Trojans host the Purgatory Intercollegiate at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana.
