Trojans, French Claim Pilot Invitational Titles
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 14th-ranked Taylor women's golf team held off a final round charge to collect the title at the Pilot Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Taylor French picked up her second career victory, finishing with a two-day total of 156 after carding a final round 79. French has now finished in the top three in each of the last three events and has carded five consecutive rounds in the 70's.
In addition to French, two other Trojans earned spots on the all-tournament team with junior All-American Maddie Thomas finishing tied for second at 158 (79-79) while sophomore All-American added a tie for fifth place at 160 (79-81).
The Trojans entered the final round with a 13-shot lead after an opening round 319 and held off a charge from Olivet Nazarene to collect an 8-shot victory after a final round 322. The Trojans finished with a two-round total of 641 (319+322) to edge ONU (332+317=649). Bethel finished third at 663 (335+328) followed by Spring Arbor at 691 (357+334).
Junior Annie Stimmel added a tie for 12th place with a two-round total of 167 (84-83) while senior Elizabeth Jackson finished tied for 23rd at 179 (87-92).
The win was the Trojans' seventh tournament victory of the season. Taylor will have one final regular season tune-up this coming Monday as TU hosts the Ackerman-Allen Shootout at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course at Purdue University.
