Trojans Dominate in Ackerman-Allen Shootout Win
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Taylor women's golf team rolled to another victory on Monday in the final event of the regular season.
The Trojans broke the school record for the lowest 36-hole team score in program history with a two-round total of 598 after firing rounds of 302 and 296. Taylor finished 20 shots clear of runner-up Marian while also besting Crossroads League foes #RV Saint Francis (315+307=622), Spring Arbor (334+329=663), Mount Vernon Nazarene (346+329=685), and Huntington (348+351=699).
Sophomore sensation Nicole Jung added to her hardware collection with her seventh career victory. Jung finished with a two-round total of 2-over par 146 (75-71) to edge teammate Taylor French by one stroke.
French continued her great play this spring with a runner-up finish, marking the fourth consecutive event she's finished inside the top three. The sophomore from O'Fallon, Missouri posted rounds of 74-73 to finish at 3-over par 147.
Junior All-American Maddie Thomas added her sixth top-5 of the season with a fifth place finish after carding rounds of 75 and 76.
Senior Elizabeth Jackson added a top-10 finish as well, finishing in ninth place at 154 (78-76) while junior Annie Stimmel finished tied for 11th at 158 (79-79).
The Trojans dominated in every facet of the event, leading the field in par-3, par-4, and par-5 scoring. Taylor finished the tournament with a scoring total of 5-under par on the par-5's and led the field in birdies (19) and pars (114).
Senior Raquel Helton paced the Taylor reserve squad with a tie for 16th place, firing rounds of 87 and 75. Sophomore Rachel Coers finished tied for 21st at 166 (84-82) while freshman Annie Eisenbarth tallied a 30th place finish at 172 (82-90). Junior Lauren Murphy carded rounds of 88-85 to finish tied for 31st while junior Alexis Harris fired 90-98 to round out the Taylor scoring.
The Trojans return to action next Monday and Tuesday as TU seeks its third straight Crossroads League title when the Trojans compete in the Crossroads League Championship at Prairie View Golf Club.
