Women's Golf Takes 12th at National Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Taylor women's golf team capped one of the most successful seasons in program history with a 12th place finish at the NAIA National Championship on Friday.
The 11th-ranked Trojans carded a final-round team tally of 303 to earn a 12th place in the 72-hole National Championship contested on the 6,050-yard, par-72 layout of Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
Friday's final round brought the most challenging conditions seen all week with winds gusting at more than 20 miles per hour but the Trojans remained steady, carding the 11th best round of the day.
Sophomore Taylor French led the way for TU in round four as the O'Fallon, Missouri native posted her low round of the tournament with a 2-over par 74. French finished in a tie for 57th place with a four round total of 308 after rounds of 80-78-76-74.
Sophomore Nicole Jung added a 3-over par 75 during the final round, highlighted by her first career eagle on the par-5 fifth hole. Jung finished as the low card for TU for the championship, finishing tied for 18th place with a four-round total of 296 (74-74-73-75). Jung led the field in par-5 scoring for the week, playing the long holes in 7-under par for the tournament.
Junior Maddie Thomas continued her steady play in the final round with a score of 75 to finish in a tie for 46th place with a four-round total of 305 (81-75-74-75).
Senior Elizabeth Jackson capped her Taylor career with a final round score of 79. The Syracuse, Indiana native played her final five holes in 1-under par to post her low score of the tournament. Jackson finishes her career as Taylor's all-time leader in rounds played with 96 and fourth all-time in career birdies with 82.
Junior Annie Stimmel rolled in a 10-footer for birdie on her final hole of the championship, the difficult par-3 ninth, to finish with a round of 80. Stimmel finished in tie for 63rd place with a four-round total of 311 with rounds of 78-78-75-80.
The 2019 NAIA National Championship marked the second consecutive season in which the Trojans made the 36-hole cut and the Trojans finished just 15 shots out of third place on a bunched leaderboard. The Trojans posted rounds of 313-305-298-303 to finish with a four-round total of 1,219 (+67).
"I am so proud of this group and all that they accomplished this season," Taylor coach Cameron Andry said. "We really battled and competed hard all week which is exactly what we've done all season. This group has been a joy to be around all season. Watching the way they love and serve one another, honor the Lord in their efforts, and respect the game every day has made this season so incredibly enjoyable."
British Columbia claimed the team title with a four-round total of 1,175 (+23), firing rounds of 294, 296, 294, 291.
Keiser's Michela Tjan took home the individual title, finishing at 4-under par 284 with rounds of 73, 70, 71, 70.
Taylor led the NAIA in the 2018-2019 season with ten tournament titles in 13 events and claimed a third consecutive Crossroads League title in dominant fashion, winning by 30 shots.
The Trojans will return four of their top five players for next season.
