No. 4 Trojans Finish Runner-Up in Orlando
ORLANDO – The 4th-ranked Taylor women's golf team opened the spring season with a runner-up finish at the NAIA ChampionsGate Invitational at ChampionsGate Resort in Orlando.
All-American Nicole Jung paced the Trojans with a third place finish after posting a 54-hole total of 225 (+9) that included rounds of 73-78-74. Jung led the field in par-5 scoring at -2 for the tournament while her nine birdies were the second most in the field for the tournament.
Senior Maddie Thomas finished just one shot back to earn a tie for fourth place at 226 (+10). Thomas fired rounds of 77-72-77. Thomas was dialed in on the par-3's, posting a score of 3-under par for the event while tallying a total of seven birdies.
Junior Taylor French added a top-10 finish with a tie for eighth place at 230 (+14) after carding rounds of 76-75-79. French carded seven birdies for the tournament and played the par-3's at 1-under par.
Senior Annie Stimmel posted a 248 (+32) to earn a 26th place finish followed by junior Rachel Coers at 257 (+41).
The Trojans carded team scores of 306-306-313 to finish runner-up behind 3rd-ranked Keiser. The Trojans defeated No. 6 Dalton State by 17 shots while finishing 19 shots clear of No. 22 Southeastern.
The Trojans return to action on March 23-24 when TU travels to Abita Springs, Louisiana for the Loyola Wolfpack Invitational.
