MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The 12th-ranked Taylor women's golf team opened the spring portion of its 2021-2022 campaign with a seventh-place finish at the Showdown at Legends held on the Parkland course at the Legends Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Trojans showed improvement in each round of the 54-hole event, posting team scores of 344, 340, and 320.
Freshman Sabrina Langerak led the way for TU with a tie for 10th place at 237 with rounds of 83-77-77. Sophomore Elizabeth Kemper was close behind, finishing with three-round total of 339 for a tie for 13th. Kemper tallied rounds of 81-78-80 and finished second in the field with seven birdies.
Freshman Ellie Karst finished in a tie for 38th place at 265 with rounds of 89-98-83 while fellow freshman Alyssa Schmidt tallied rounds of 91-92-91 and junior Kailey Behrens showed steady improvement with rounds of 104, 95, 80.
Taylor competed without two of its top weapons with senior All-American Nicole Jung and freshman Ellie Beavins both sidelined for the event. Even still, the young Trojans held their own in a field that featured a plethora of ranked squads including No. 7 William Carey, No. 14 Campbellsville, No. 17 Cumberland, No. 18 Lindsey Wilson, No. 21 Morningside, and #RV Truett McConnell and #RV Cumberlands.
Thanks to the final round charge the Trojans managed to knock off No. 21 Morningside.
Taylor returns to action on March 21-22 when TU travels to New Orleans for the Loyola Wolfpack Invitational.
