HARTFORD CITY, Ind. – Seniors Victoria Calderhead and Amanda Roden of Taylor women's soccer have each been named to the All-Crossroads League team, as recently announced by the league office.
Calderhead, a defender, is in the midst of her first season with Taylor women's soccer. After playing soccer during her freshman season at NCAA Division I Marshall University, Calderhead transferred to Taylor and joined the Trojans during her senior year.
Hailing from Milford, Ohio, Calderhead has been a huge component to what has been a strong defensive unit throughout the season. Taylor is allowing just 0.94 goals-against and ranks No. 17 in the nation in total shutouts with nine. Calderhead has thwarted many opposing attacks by winning balls from the center of the Taylor defense and is consistently in the proper position to limit opponents' threatening opportunities. Calderhead also has displayed the ability to distribute through the midfield to help Taylor maintain possession, while adding two assists on the season.
Roden earned the honor for the second consecutive season and is a team captain for Taylor. The central midfielder from Cincinnati, Ohio has led the Trojans in 2014 with eight goals and two assists for a total of 18 points, the tenth-highest mark in the Crossroads League. Roden has also notched four timely game-winning goals, which ranks No. 27 in the NAIA.
Perhaps Roden's best game of the season came in the 4-0 win against rival Indiana Wesleyan. Roden scored the game's first goal on a penalty kick then scored once again in the 43rd minute on a left-footed blast from about 35 yards out. With Taylor leading 2-0 with halftime approaching, Roden then assisted to Rebekah Pack for another long-distance goal with just seven seconds left on the clock to put the Trojans up 3-0.
