AVON, Ohio – Sophomore Megan Williams was honored on Monday by the Crossroads League as the Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in goal for the No. 23 Taylor women's soccer team.
Williams started both matches for TU last week and picked up six saves in the shutout wins over Cornerstone and Campbellsville. The Trojans outscored their opponents 8-0 for the week and are now 7-0-2 overall.
The sophomore helped guide the Purple and Gold to their fourth-straight shutout on Saturday, after a four-save performance against Campbellsville. In 45 minutes of action against Cornerstone, Williams tallied two saves. Taylor now has five shutouts for the season, which ranks ninth in the country.
The Fishers, Indiana product has been a constant factor in goal for TU and sits at 23rd in the country and sixth in the conference for a goals allowed per game average of 0.73. Williams has 27 saves and a 0.81 save percentage to go with a 5-0-2 record for the season.
This is Williams' first honor as a Crossroads League Player of the Week and the team's first defensive player of the week winner since Lauren Engelkes was honored last year during the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
Williams, Hunter Smith (men's cross country), Alex Berends (women's cross country), Samantha Korn (volleyball) and Haley Harrell (volleyball) were all honored this week by the Crossroads League to give TU a total of eight such awards this fall.
The Trojans return to the pitch on Wednesday for a league match at No. 1 Spring Arbor (6-0-1). The contest is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
