Trojans Suffer 7-0 Setback to Cougars
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor (5-11, 1-5 CL) fell 7-0 to Spring Arbor (7-11, 2-4 CL) in Crossroads League women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Taylor Tennis Complex.
The visiting Cougars claimed all three doubles flights to take an early 1-0 lead. Victoria Herrington and Moorea McNalley defeated Maddy Fuqua and Anna Stone 6-0 at No. 1, Isabel Abraham and Lilah Dean topped Ellie Schaufelberger and Delaney Dahl 6-2 at No. 2, and Dayra Novella and Madelyn Dell defeated Evy Danemayer and Gracie Frazier 6-0 at No. 3.
Jillian Darby provided the strongest showing of the afternoon for the Trojans at No. 2 singles, pushing Herrington to 6-4 in both sets before falling in straight sets. The freshman has won 11 singles sets on the year, second on the team.
Fuqua, the team leader with 18 singles sets won and eight singles victories this season, battled at the top flight, falling 6-2, 6-3 to McNalley.
Danemayer competed at No. 4 singles, dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Dean. Stone fell 6-4, 6-1 to Abraham at No. 5. Schaufelberger and Dahl rounded out the lineup at No. 3 and No. 6, respectively.
Taylor has three matches remaining in the regular season, beginning Saturday, April 11 when the Trojans travel to Saint Francis for an 11 a.m. match.
