TU Posts Road Win Over Saint Francis
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Taylor won five of six singles matches and claimed the doubles point to defeat Saint Francis 6-1 on Saturday morning at the Swinney Tennis Center, picking up its second Crossroads League victory of the season.
The Trojans (6-11, 2-5 CL) split the first two doubles flights before earning the point via forfeit at No. 3. Isabela Florez and Alejandra Parra handled Maddy Fuqua and Anna Stone 6-1 at No. 1 doubles to give the Cougars an early edge, but Ellie Schaufelberger and Delaney Dahl answered with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-2 win over Victoria Rodenbeck and Madeline Lomont at No. 2 for the duo's second doubles win of the season. Evy Danemayer and Gracie Frazier received a forfeit at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point for TU.
Parra provided Saint Francis' only point of the afternoon, defeating Fuqua 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. From there, the Trojans swept the remaining flights in straight sets. Jillian Darby topped Florez 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 for her sixth singles win of the year, and Schaufelberger defeated Rodenbeck 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 to pull double duty with wins in both singles and doubles, improving to 5-14 in singles on the season.
Danemayer was dominant at No. 4, rolling past Lomont 6-0, 6-3 for her sixth singles victory of the year, while Stone claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win over Blythe Collins at No. 5 to push her singles record to 7-11. Dahl earned a forfeit win at No. 6, her third singles victory of the season.
TU returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Huntington for a 4:00 p.m. first serve.
