OFFENSE EXPLODES, TROJANS SWEEP GOSHEN
The Taylor University baseball team took two wins over conference foe Goshen College (7-35, 0-14) today improving their record to 21-11 on the season and 7-3 in the Mid-Central College Conference.
Sophomore pitcher Taylor Kinzer dominated the mound in game one with seven strikeouts in a complete-game outing, allowing just two runs on three hits. Kinzer picked up his third win of the season with an 11-2 final score.
Kinzer helped is own cause connecting on three hits in four at-bats including a 2-RBI double in the first inning that led to a 3-0 Trojan lead.
The Trojans posted a monster fifth inning as all nine batters made an appearance at the plate. The team recorded four more runs on five hits and a Maple Leaf error. Taylor tallied 14 hits on the game collecting multi-hit performances from six different players.
If the Trojan bats appeared hot in game one, the lights showed brighter in game two as Taylor cruised to its fifth run-rule win of the season with a final score of 13-3 in five innings.
Senior Braden Dissinger highlighted the Trojan's third inning with a three-run home run, his first of the season. The deep ball marked the first of two in the same inning as Matt Maple connected on a two-out shot that led to five runs on four hits in the frame. The pair combined for 4-for-5 from the plate and seven RBIs in the game.
While the offense may have stolen the show, freshman pitcher Travis Carsten did his part with a solid complete-game outing striking out three and giving up just two earned runs for his first win of the season.
