WALK-OFF HIT ADVANCES TROJANS
Box Score
Taylor took the field today in the opening round of the Mid-Central College Conference tournament against Huntington University. The Trojans accomplished what they couldn't during the regular season by defeating the Foresters 5-4.
Senior Cassidy Emery delivered key hits on three separate occasions to push the Trojans to victory.
In the fourth inning Emery laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Ryne Otis to second base, who eventually scored off Kinzer's single to left field. A walk and a hit batter later Taylor Wilde knocked in the Trojans' second run of the inning.
Three fourth-inning stranded runners proved costly in the seventh, though, as the Foresters tied the score with a pair of runs of their own.
Taylor answered in the bottom of the same frame loading the bases and manufacturing two runs. After Otis punched in the first with a sacrifice fly scoring Passiales, Emery followed with a squeeze bunt that scored Matt Maple.
Trailing 4-2 in the top of the ninth inning the Foresters extended the game a half inning with two runs. Batting the top of the order, Taylor put three of their first four batters on base. With one out Emery recorded his second RBI of the game with a walk-off single to left field.
"It was a really big hit when we needed it and it was a good one for a senior to get," Head Coach Kyle Gould said. "We're going to need more of that as we advance through the tournament."
Taylor Kinzer started on the mound for the Trojans and pitched a solid seven innings recording three strikeouts and just one earned run.
"We got our best start of the year on the mound from Taylor Kinzer," Gould said. "Huntington is a very good offensive team and Taylor shut them down for seven innings."
TU connected on 12 hits for the game including four players with a multi-hit game.
The Trojans take the diamond in the second round of the six-team double elimination tournament on Monday at 12:00 p.m. against Bethel College. The game will be played on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan. Taylor swept the regular season series against the Pilots.
