Football Suffers First Home Loss of Season
UPLAND, Ind. – Eyeing the first 4-1 start to a season since opening with six-straight wins in 1999, Taylor fell into a quick deficit to visiting Olivet Nazarene on Saturday night inside Turner Stadium and never recovered in a 49-14 loss.
The Tigers (1-2, 0-0 MSFA) found the end zone on their second play from scrimmage and never looked back. ONU posted 211 total yards of offense in the opening quarter, raced to a 21-0 lead and opened a 35-7 gap by halftime.
The game ended with Olivet Nazarene having posted 564 total yards of offense, while Taylor countered with 277.
The Trojans were led offensively by Elijah McCloskey, who completed eight passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Hutson Hohlbein was on the receiving end of each of those scores, accounting for the lone points of the evening for TU.
Damon Hockett provided an offensive jolt with team-highs of 10 rushes and 46 yards, while Dylan Scally led the way with 5.6 yards per touch for 39 yards on seven carries.
On the defensive side of the ball, Jacob Hockett led Taylor with nine tackles, Reid Wheeler posted eight stops and one interception and Reese Pinckney added seven stops and a trio of passes broken up. Bryson Scott registered the lone sack of the game for Taylor.
Taylor (3-2, 1-0 MSFA) will begin a six-game stretch of MSFA Mideast League affairs when it plays at No. 5 Marian (3-0, 1-0 MSFA)) on October 1 at 1:05 pm in Indianapolis.
