Taylor Rides Offensive Outburst to Homecoming Win

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor set or matched season-highs in a host of offensive categories and treated a packed crowd at Turner Stadium to a 52-23 Homecoming victory over Madonna to improve to 5-3 on the season and 3-1 in MSFA Mideast League play.
The five wins are TU's most in a season since going 7-3 in 2015, while its four victories inside Turner are its most since also winning four home games in 2017. The three MSFA wins are the program's most since taking four league games in 2015.
The 29-point win was the 299th all-time win for Taylor, as the Trojans set or matched season-highs with 52 points, 507 total yards of offense, 323 rushing yards, 57 carries, 17 pass completions, 5.7 yards per carry and 32:44 in time of possession.
Taylor also piled up 35 first downs, converted eight-of-14 third down attempts and registered three interceptions and four sacks.
TU took control early, responding to a field goal on Madonna's (0-9, 0-5 MSFA) first possession by scoring the next 24 points of the contest to take the lead for good.
The Crusaders used a couple of quick strikes to draw to within 24-16 in the closing moments of the opening half, but the Trojans put 14 points on the board quickly out of the intermission and never looked back in the lopsided victory.
The Trojans used 11 different ball carriers in the contest, getting a team-high 88 yards on 22 carries with two touchdowns from Dylan Scally. Brendan Lamb impressed in his return to action with 60 yards on just nine touches and Damon Hockett called his own number five times for 46 yards and a score.
Dakohta Sonnichsen, Stephen Ellis and Ja Thomas also scored touchdowns on the ground, while Ellis also caught a touchdown pass from Elijah McCloskey and Hutson Hohlbein caught eight passes for 106 yards.
Zane Shilts continued his perfect season with seven point-after makes without a miss and a successful 29-yard field goal in his only attempt of the afternoon.
Taylor's defense was highlighted by interceptions from Reese Pinckney, Hojun Yun and Christian Severt, while Jacob Hockett stayed hot with a team-leading 11 tackles and one sack. Braxton Green grabbed two sacks and Ja Pryor recorded one.
Taylor (5-3, 3-1 MSFA) will return to action on October 29 with a 12:00 pm start at Saint Francis (3-4, 1-3 MSFA).
