Bio

The 2023-2024 season is the eleventh for Josh Andrews as the head coach of the Taylor men’s basketball program. Andrews is only the third head coach for TU since the start of the 1947-1948 campaign.

During Andrews’ first ten seasons with Taylor, the Trojans went 86-61 on their home planks, while scoring 13 victories over top-25 foes inside Odle Arena. Andrews has coached 20 players to All-Crossroads League honors, including two All-Americans.

The Trojans won the program’s 1,400 game during the 2022-23 season, while also defeating No. 2 Grace for the highest ranked victory under Andrews. Taylor advanced to the Crossroads League semifinals for the first time since 2020 and secured its first road win in the CL Tournament since 2013 with its first victory over Indiana Wesleyan in 11 years. Under Andrews’ coaching Jason Hubbard became the program’s leading scorer with over 2,000 points in his career.

A third winning season in four years was completed with a 17-win campaign in 2019-2020, as Andrews guided the Trojans to seven wins over teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25, and the program’s first showing in the CL Tournament Semifinals since 2012.

The Trojans posted back-to-back winning records under Andrews in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, marking the program’s first consecutive winning seasons since the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 campaigns. In addition to posting a second-straight winning record, the 2017-2018 club improved its scoring average for the third-straight year and averaged 82.4 points per game for TU’s best clip since the 1977-1978 season. Taylor scored at least 80 points in 17-of-31 contests and reached the 90-point plateau in 11 games.

The rebuilding process was completed during Andrew’s fourth year with the program, as Taylor went 21-12 for its first 20-win season since 2012-2013 and advanced to the NAIA National Championship Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time since 2006. Other highlights from the breakthrough campaign in 2016-2017 included notching a trio of wins over top-20 foes, setting a new program record for threes in a game and a season, matching the best start in program history with 10 victories to open the season and climbing as high as No. 7 in the NAIA Top-25 Poll.

Prior to restoring the program at Taylor, Andrews spent two seasons rebuilding the powerhouse Middletown High program in Middletown, Ohio. The Middies went 32-17 under Andrews, winning back-to-back conference titles to end a 17-year drought for the proud program that boasts the most state championships in Ohio high school basketball history.

Along with the pair of conference crowns, Andrews led Middletown to sectional and district championships during the 2011-2012 season and was touted as the Greater Miami Conference Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013.

Prior to taking the reins of the historic Middletown program, Andrews compiled an 80-18 record during four seasons as the head coach at Princeton High and led the Vikings to the 2009 Ohio State Finals for their first appearance since 1971. Princeton lost the title game, 60-58, to a Northland High squad featuring a pair of future NBA first-round picks in Jared Sullinger and Trey Burke.

During his time as the head coach at Princeton, Andrews also guided the program to a sectional championship in all four years at the helm and helped the Vikings to conference and district championships in each of his first three seasons. Andrews also served as the head coach of Princeton’s junior varsity squad for two years, going 39-1, before assuming the head coaching role at the start of the 2007 season.

Along with earning four GMC Coach-of-the-Year awards during his time at Princeton and Middletown, Andrews was also selected as the Cincinnati Enquirer Coach of the Year in 2008 and repeated the honor in 2009, while also being named as the District 16 and AP Ohio Division I Coach of the Year.

After attending Taylor during his freshman year, Andrews went on to become a two-year team captain on the men’s basketball team at Union College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2005. Andrews then earned a master’s degree in education from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2008.

Andrews and his wife, Ashley, are the proud parents of Alexis, Ava and Josiah.
