AVON, Ohio – Daniel Gerber was named the Crossroads League Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week following his season-opening performance at the Indiana Wesleyan Twilight Invite Friday evening.
Gerber opened up his senior campaign by claiming the individual victory in a field of 175 runners. In the last 200-meters of the race, Gerber switched gears for his final sprint, caught the leader at the line and won by inches, clocking a time just 0.10-seconds ahead of second place. The Danville, Indiana native set a lifetime-best mark of 24:38.9, logging the fifth-fastest 8k time in the history of Taylor's program.
Gerber's impressive performance helped the No. 1-ranked Trojans finish runner-up as a team, starting the season with a record of 12-1.
This is the senior's first Crossroads League Cross Country Runner of the Week honor during his Taylor career.
Gerber and the No. 1 Trojans will be back in action on their home course Friday, September 17 at the TUXC Farm in Upland, Indiana for the Ray Bullock Invitational.
