Taylor Thumps RV Goshen 84-65
UPLAND, Ind. – Cassidy Wyse scored the game's first ten points on Saturday and Taylor women's basketball never looked back against receiving votes Goshen. The Trojans shot 49.1 percent from the field and had six players in double-figures in the home win.
Taylor improved to 4-0 in Crossroads League play inside of Odle Arena, and the Trojans matched last season's win total of 12 with the win over the Maple Leafs.
Taylor has now defeated Goshen in the last eight meetings between the two sides. Wyse set the tone early with her scoring and knocked down two three-pointers in the opening minutes as the Trojans gained the early upper hand with a 10-0 lead. Goshen was able to cut the lead in half at 22-17 by the 9:29 mark after a basket by Keshia Ward, but Taylor responded with a 9-0 run to get ahead 31-17, capped off by consecutive three-pointers by Megan Richardson and Josie Cobb.
The Trojans went on another 7-0 run to extend the lead to 41-20, and Taylor led at the half 47-25 after Cobb beat the buzzer with a basket in the paint to push Taylor to its largest lead of the game to that point.
Taylor was able to hold onto its substantial lead in the second half and improved to 12-1 on the season in games in which it has led at halftime. Goshen was never able to get within 15 points of the Trojans as Taylor cruised to the victory.
Goshen came into today's game with the largest rebounding margin in the Crossroads League, but it was Taylor that dominated the glass 37-29. Taylor also made 8-of-18 from beyond the three-point line, five of which came in the opening half, to set a team high in three-pointers made on the season.
"I was really pleased with how we did come out today," said head coach Kelly Packard. "It was good to see us win the rebounding category, which is a strength for Goshen. It was a quality win, and in order for us to be contenders down the stretch in February, we have got to win at home."
Offensively it was a great outing for the Trojans, as Taylor assisted on 18-of-26 field goals. The Trojans also knocked in 24-of-28 from the free-throw line in the contest.
Jackie Osenbaugh paced the Trojans with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Wyse recorded 16 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds and two steals. Taylor Degenkolb provided quality minutes off the Taylor bench and scored 12 points on 2-of-4 shooting from deep with three rebounds and three assists. Richardson had a stat line of 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals while Cobb and Erinn Behn each contributed ten points on the day.
Taylor (12-8, 5-3 CL) hits the road for a meeting with Bethel next Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
