AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Information Directors of America announced the 2019-2020 Academic All-Americans, naming Becca Buchs first-team and Abby Buchs second-team.
Becca Buchs added the First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American nod to her list of accomplishments, including a First-Team All-Crossroads League selection and WBCA NAIA All-American Honorable Mention recognition.
The senior guard was dominant on and off the court, leading the team with 576 points and 274 rebounds on the season. Buchs broke her own record set last year, sinking 130 triples for the single-season school mark, while grabbing a three-point make in 61-straight games. The Angola, Indiana native also notched the second-best three-point field goal percentage, hitting at a 48.7 percent-clip from deep.
Buchs matched her impressive performance on the court with a 3.80 grade-point average, while majoring in accounting and finance.
Abby Buchs corralled a Second-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American distinction with last week's announcement. Buchs put together a fantastic senior campaign, locking down opponents' top threat on defense, while making an impact on offense. Strength on both ends of the court earned Buchs a Second-Team All-Crossroads League honor.
The 5-11 guard averaged 15.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while pacing the squad with 14 total blocks. Buchs piled on 521 points on the year, moving her to 16th in school history with 1,194 career points.
Abby Buchs majors in accounting and finance and maintains a 3.81 GPA.
Becca Buchs and Abby Buchs are the third and fourth CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in the history of the Taylor women's basketball program, joining 1998 Third-Team Academic All-American, Sarah Krause, and 2019 Second-Team Academic All-American, Kendall Bradbury, on the list.
The Buchs twins were a part of the winningest class in program history along with Sydney Huffman, Jamie Netzley and Haley Stratman. The group compiled a 97-38 overall record following back-to-back 30 win seasons. The starting five for the Trojans also secured three-straight appearances in the NAIA Tournament, including two-consecutive opening round victories. The seniors ended their careers with a win, after the cancellation of the national tourney.
