KANSAS CITY – The Trojans placed two on the NAIA All-Americans list for the third time in school history, as Becca Buchs and Abby Buchs each notched the significant distinction.
Both athletes put together a historical season on their way to earning the 16th and 17th TU women's basketball NAIA All-American awards in program history. The duo helped the TU squad to a 30-4 overall record and a win in the opening round of the NAIA Tournament.
In back-to-back seasons, TU gathered a pair of NAIA All-American honors with Becca Buchs and Kendall Bradbury reaching the feat last year. Buchs is the fifth Trojan in program history to secure the honor multiple times.
Becca Buchs was selected as a First-Team All-American, following a season at the forefront of the seventh-ranked Trojans. The 5-11 guard led the team in points and rebounds, averaging 16.9 points and 7.3 boards per game in 2020.
In addition, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association selected Buchs as a 2020 WBCA NAIA Coaches All-American Honorable Mention. This distinguished honor included NAIA Division I and Division II standouts.
Top-tier shooting from Buchs propelled her to the many prestigious achievements. The senior was the top shooter in the NAIA, netting a program record 130 triples, while converting at a 48.7 percent-clip from beyond the arc. Three-pointers have been a habit for Buchs, who hit a deep ball in 61-straight games, dating back to November 2018. The sharpshooter also set a program record with a 45.9 career three-point field goal percentage, crushing the previous record.
Abby Buchs earned an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention with her all-around effort on the court. The Angola, Indiana native was a crucial part of Taylor's success on defense, taking on the opponent's top offensive threat. Despite the major task, Buchs managed to pace the Trojans with 14 blocks, while adding 47 steals.
Offensively, Buchs collected 15.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, offering four double-doubles. The senior was efficient from everywhere on the court this season, leading the team with a 51.4 field goal percentage, while connecting on 42.1 percent of her three-point field goal attempts. Buchs was also accurate from the free throw line throughout her career, setting the program record for career free throw percentage at 88.0 percent.
The NAIA Division II Women's Basketball All-American list consisted of 60 student-athletes with 10 spots on each of the first, second and third teams and 30 on the honorable mention list.
