UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor opened Crossroads League with a sensational 7-0 victory over Saint Francis powered by clinical finishing in the first half.
An exciting first 26 minutes saw the Trojans score five goals on their five shots of the match from five separate athletes on the pitch.
The first goal came in the sixth minute off a corner, as Brooke Cimini sent in a terrific ball to the far post headed in by Campbell Massey for her third goal of the season, all of which came on corner kicks.
A minute later, TU doubled its advantage as Rachel Landis made a run from the defensive half and then passed to Leah McQuade, who slotted in for her second goal of the season.
Ten minutes later Sydney Thompson sent in a perfect cross, finding the head of Audrey Grimm, who guided it past the keeper for her team-leading fifth goal of the year.
Shortly after, Grimm made a terrific move to get past a pair of defenders and made a run from the midway line before an inch-perfect through ball to Lauren Collins, who rounded the keeper and fired into the back of the net.
The final goal before the break came from a pair of substitutes, with Sydney Reddy dishing it to Eliza Luttrell in a crowd of Cougars, all of which she held off until scoring on the cusp of the 18-yard box.
After halftime, Morgan Fletemeyer got in on the scoring, heading home another corner from Cimini for her fourth goal of the season.
Luttrell capped the scoring in the 78th minute, slotting home a rebounded saved shot from Reddy to secure a brace for the sophomore.
Along with a clinical offense, the defense shut down the Cougars, allowing just four shots and not a single corner kick for the visitors.
Taylor (4-2-2, 1-0-0 CL) continues Crossroads League action on the road with a matchup against RV Grace (8-0-1, 0-0-1 CL) set for Saturday, September 28, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.
