Ieremia and Kleiman Lead Trojans to Sweep of Maple Leafs
GOSHEN, Ind. – The Trojans (11-9, 2-6 CL) swept Goshen (7-13, 0-8 CL) behind a dominant night from the middle hitter tandem of Grace Ieremia and Reagan Kleiman.
The duo combined for 13 kills on 24 attacks and tallied nine blocks between the pair. Ieremia led the Trojans with eight kills and was second in blocks to fellow junior Jaylynn Dunsmore, who notched a season-high seven throughout the match.
Taylor came out firing in the first set, taking a 25-15 victory behind an efficient offensive attack, which notched a .444 attacking percentage while holding Goshen to -.038.
The second set was a different story, with Taylor falling behind 6-5 early. The score was tied or in Goshen's favor most of the way, with the Maple Leafs two points from taking the set late. Taylor and Dunsmore rattled off three consecutive blocks to come from behind and take a commanding two-set lead, with Ieremia also assisting on a pair of late blocks.
Taylor used the momentum from the strong finish to take an early lead in the third set, which they would not relinquish. A 5-0 run from the Maple Leafs put them within two at 18-16, but TU scored seven of the final nine points to close out the match with a 25-18 victory.
Sophomore Ava Kraft saw her most extensive time on the court in her short career on Wednesday and tallied a career-high three kills in two sets. Jen Springer led the way at the service line with three service aces, which put her in the team lead for the season with 25.
Taylor travels to Indianapolis, Indiana, to face Marian (12-6, 6-2 CL) on Friday, September 29, with the match set to begin at 7:00 pm.
