Seniors Honored Before Four-Set Loss to RV Marian
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor dropped a four-set contest against RV Marian (19-9, 13-5 CL) in its final regular season match on Senior Day.
Before the match, TU honored seniors Savannah Strieter and Chelsea Hurt. Both players were joined by their parents on the court, as both have been a valuable part of the Taylor volleyball program for the past four years.
Once the festivities were completed a battle on the court took place. Taylor and Marian traded points throughout the first set until TU scored four straight points to take a 14-10 lead. Taylor kept the advantage until Marian used a 5-0 run to take a 20-18 lead, which forced a timeout from Erin Luthy.
The timeout proved fruitful, as did bringing in freshman Reagan Kleiman, whose kill gave the Trojans a 22-20 advantage, which quickly turned into a 22-23 deficit. TU rallied to secure the final three points and the set by forcing two attacking errors before Reagan Salzbrenner delivered the finishing blow.
Taylor (15-18, 5-13 CL) was out of sorts in the second and third sets and let Marian run away with both to take the lead in the match.
The Trojans came back strong in the fourth set and grabbed a 10-7 lead after a kill from Lindsay Springer. The Knights fought their way back into the set and then raced away with a 7-2 run, which put the Trojans behind for good, and the set ended 25-20.
Grace Ieremia led the Trojans with nine kills and six blocks, while Springer had another double-double with 29 assists and 15 digs.
The Trojans begin postseason play in the Crossroads League Tournament on Saturday, November 4, against No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan (29-0, 18-0 CL) on the road, with the match set to start at 4:00 pm.
