Trojans Roll Past Cougars in CL Sweep
UPLAND, Ind. – After celebrating Professor Appreciation night, RV Taylor aced the match with a sweep of Saint Francis (4-24, 0-16 CL).
Ruth Anderson's late season surge continued in the opening moments, producing three of her new career-high ten blocks in the first 15 points as the Trojans raced out to a 12-4 lead. The freshman added nine kills at the net for the home squad.
The Cougars clawed back to within three before Ellie Frey laid down the hammer with a pair of kills to get Taylor some breathing room. Frey produced a game-high 14 kills and added 11 digs, three blocks, and two service aces in another splendid performance.
Saint Francis trimmed the lead to three at 22-19 but after a TU timeout Reagan Kleiman began a 3-0 spurt to finish the opener.
Trailing 5-3 early in the second, Lindsay Springer spread the effectively with three of her 16 assists during a 5-0 run to take the lead for good. Springer notched a double-double with 11 digs and is just over 50 assists away from 3,000 in her Taylor career.
Kleiman continued her effective night with two more kills as the Trojans scored four consecutive points. The junior outside hitter collected 12 kills on the night, hitting an impressive .357 in process.
McKaylah Flagle capped the second with an ace for a 25-17 set victory. Flagle had 18 digs and six assists as the senior inches closer to 2,000 career digs, sitting on 1,973 after Wednesday's match.
Saint Francis improved its play in the third, racing out to an 8-5 lead. Kleiman fueled another TU run to take the lead with a pair of kills, with Frey adding a kill.
A back-and-forth set saw 12 ties with the final one coming at 23 after the Cougars reeled off three-straight points. An error preceded Frey hammering down the final point to ensure a sweep.
A dynamic defensive effort from the Trojans produced ten total blocks and held Saint Francis to a .097 hitting percentage. The TU offense hit .250, led by Frey and Kleiman both hitting over .350.
RV Taylor (19-9, 10-6 CL) wraps up its regular season home slate with a matchup against cross-county rival No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan (22-4, 15-1 CL) at 4:00 pm. Senior Day festivities will take place before the match, honoring five student athletes.
