JACKSON, Mich. – For the first time this season and the second time of his career at Taylor, Javan Johnson was honored as the Crossroads League Golfer of the Week, after leading TU to a team title at the Ackerman-Allen Shootout.
Johnson led throughout at the Ackerman-Allen Shootout on April 18, matching a career-best score of 66 in the opening round and shooting par over the final 18 holes to win medalist honors. Johnson finished his lone event of the week with a 36-hole total of 138 and a three-stroke lead for the top spot.
The win was Johnson's fifth of the season in 10 tournament, while the scores of 66 and 72 lowered his scoring average to 72.7 over 22 rounds in those events. The two rounds at the Ackerman-Allen Shootout also gave Johnson a team-leading 11 rounds of par-or-below this season and the 66 was his fourth round in the 60's.
Johnson joined TJ Bass and Sabrina Langerak in earning weekly awards from the Crossroads League on Monday, as TU Athletics has now collected 46 athlete-of-the-week awards during the 2022-2023 year.
Johnson and the sixth-ranked Trojans (99-5) will return to action on May 1 and 2 at the Crossroads League Championships, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan at the Chariot Run Golf Club in Laconia, Indiana. TU will be in search of a seventh-straight league title.
