UPLAND, Ind. – A pair of Trojan lacrosse student-athletes earned high academic honors recently, with Teegan Heiniger and Nathanael Love being named as CoSIDA Academic All-District Team selections.
Heiniger and Love were two-of-seven men's lacrosse student-athletes from around the NAIA to collect the prestigious award and took two of the 13 available spots on the NAIA Men's At-Large Team from District II, which includes all NAIA institutions from the states of Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. The At-Large Team includes student-athletes from the sports of lacrosse, rifle, skiing, fencing, swimming, tennis, golf, men's volleyball, gymnastics, water polo, hockey, wrestling and competitive cheer.
Heiniger collected his third-straight CoSIDA Academic All-District award and will look to earn his second-straight CoSIDA All-American honor with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.96 in engineering. The senior midfielder closed his career having played in every single game in program history and as the program's all-time leader in games played, ground balls and faceoff win percentage. During the 2022 campaign, Heiniger played in all 15 games, started 13 times and posted nine goals, six assists, 59 ground balls and 101 faceoff wins for the Trojans.
Love earned his first CoSIDA honor with a 3.62 GPA in graphic art. The senior goalie served as TU's starter between the pipes in each of the last two seasons, setting the program record for saves. This spring, Love played all 15 games, piling up 166 saves for an average of 11.1 stops per contest.
The honors for Heiniger and Love boost Taylor's NAIA and NCAA-leading total of CoSIDA Academic All-District selections for the 2021-2022 year to 57. The duo will now advance to the ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which is scheduled to be announced on June 14.
The CoSIDA Academic awards are designed to showcase student-athletes for outstanding work in the classroom, as well as on the field of play. In order to be eligible for the honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30, must have reached sophomore status academically with at least one full year at their current institution and must have participated in over half of the team's competitions as a key contributor during the current season.
Student-athletes are nominated for the award by their institution's Sports Information Department and selected via a national vote by members of CoSIDA.
