UPLAND, Ind. – For the second time in a week, Taylor hosted a top-10 battle at Wheeler Field, this time suffering a 19-8 loss to third-ranked Aquinas.
The Trojans finished the day with two more shots and five more ground balls than the Saints (6-1, 2-1 WHAC), while Aquinas managed just 13 successful clears in 24 tries and committed three more turnovers than Taylor.
Despite those numbers, Aquinas put 26 shots on target and found the net on 19 of those attempts to roll past the upset-minded Taylor squad.
Will Saxby opened the scoring for a quick 1-0 TU lead, and scores from AJ Harris and Jack Kaiser pulled the Purple and Gray within 4-3 at the end of the first period.
Aquinas began to pull away in the second however, netting the first four scores of the frame for an 8-5 lead at the break and then putting the game away with a six-goal spurt to open the third.
Saxby paced the Trojans with five goals with Jackson Dale adding two assists. Lucas Pacer led the defense with nine ground balls and four caused turnovers.
No. 8 Taylor (5-2, 1-2 WHAC) will look to snap its two-game skid when it plays at Siena Heights (0-7, 0-3 WHAC) on Wednesday, March 25.
