MARION, Ind. – Facing a nationally-ranked opponent for the second time in as many outings, the Taylor University men's soccer team fell 3-0 to No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday evening at IWU Soccer Field.
After trailing 1-0 at halftime, TU (6-3-1, 0-1-1 CL) couldn't muster up the second-half magic it has feasted on for much of the season, including just a few nights ago in a draw with seventh-ranked Bethel.
The Trojans let only a few moments slip away from them on Saturday night as both teams combined for just five total shots on goal, including TU with a pair in the second half from Luka Gole and Justin Devlin.
Devlin's chance came in the 81st minute, and Gole's earlier in the period shortly after halftime, both of which were stopped by IWU goalkeeper Kadin Wolfe.
Mariano Chaves put the home side up 1-0 in the 14th minute, with two additional strikes by IWU's Sam Goodin (57') and Eliass Elfasoukhi (63').
The Trojans finished with seven total shot attempts and two corners, while the Wildcats (7-2-2, 2-0-1 CL) posted six corners and eight total shots.
TU returns to action next week with a pair of home matches against Goshen (Weds.) and No. 24 Spring Arbor (Sat.). Both league tilts are scheduled for 7 p.m. start times.
