Trojan 4x800-Meter Relay Team Earns All-American Honors

PITTSBURG, Kansas – The Taylor 4x800-meter relay squad of Alec DeVries, Shauntis Lewis, Daniel Gerber, and Ben Byrd notched All-American honors on Friday during day two of the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
The quartet posted a time of 7:42.06 to claim fifth place and earn All-American honors for the Trojans on Friday.
Byrd, who helped the TU 4x800-meter relay team to the fifth place finish, also raced earlier in the day when the junior punched his ticket to Saturday's final in the mile with a season-best time of 4:17.16. The time was the tenth fastest mark during the semifinals and sets Byrd up for Saturday's final scheduled for 12:20 pm (CT).
Taylor sprint star Caleb Anthony easily advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday. Anthony, who tied for second place in the 60-metet hurdles at the 2017 NAIA Indoor Championships, cruised to the finals with a time of 8.12. Anthony won his heat during the semifinals and managed the third fastest time during the semifinals.
TU freshman Marcus Gross made his national championship debut on Friday as the Coconut Creek, Florida native earned a 19th place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.93 meters.
In addition to Byrd in the mile and Anthony in the 60-meter hurdles, tomorrow the Trojans will also feature Drew LeFever (shot put), Jonathan DeHaan (pole vault), and Joe Beamish (5,000-meters) during the final day of the NAIA Indoor Championships.
