Stayte and Ortiz Pick Up Victories for Taylor at We Fly Challenge
MUNCIE, Ind. – Taylor picked up a pair of victories at the We Fly Challenge at the campus of Ball State over the weekend as the outdoor track and field season continued.
Jared Stayte notched one of Taylor's two victories at he We Fly Challenge, clocking a time of 9:30.62 in the steeplechase, to win by over 20 seconds. The mark is a top15 time in the NAIA in the event this season, after the senior was an All-American a year ago.
Alex Ortiz carded the other victory in the 5,000-meters, posting a time of 15:11.77, to eclipse the field of 24 runners on Saturday.
Taylor was elite in the 1,500-meters, having the first five NAIA finishers in the event, led by Joel Mumaw in fourth with a mark of 3:51.49. The career-best time for the senior time is top-ten in the NAIA currently.
Max Lambert threw a career-best distance of 124 feet 8 inches in the discus. Nathan Samson also recorded a personal best, clearing a height of 13 feet 3.25 inches in the pole vault.
Wade Jones posted Taylor's best time in the 400-meters, with a mark of 50.21, followed closely by Carter Newman at 51.37. Bryce Noble carded Taylor's first time under two minutes in the 800-meters this season with a time of 1:55.08.
The Trojan men compete next at the Little State Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University, beginning on Friday, April 17th at 4:00 pm.
