Taylor Men Finish Fourth at Crossroads Championships

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor men's indoor track and field program wrapped up its two-day showing at the 2019 Crossroads League Championships in fourth place.
The Trojans picked up one win, one meet record, one program record and three NAIA standards during Saturday's action, closing the meet with a total of 98 points. Bethel claimed the team crown with 166 points, followed by Marian at 140 and Indiana Wesleyan at 119.
Caleb Anthony was part of two second-place and NAIA standard performances for TU, hitting the A mark with a time of 8.26 in the 60-meter hurdles and teaming with Matt Sakeuh, Darryl Robinson and Shauntis Lewis to provisionally qualify for NAIA Nationals and set a new Taylor program record with a mark of 3:22.29 in a thrilling 4x400-meter relay.
Josh Roth was at it once again, this time winning the 3,000-meters with an NAIA A-standard time of 8:36.79 to set a new CL Indoor Championships record and post the 11th-best mark in the NAIA this season. Roth was followed in the event with a fifth-place effort from Hunter Smith and an eighth-place showing from Connor Legge.
Taylor also claimed a pair of top-five finishes in the mile, led by Ben Byrd's second-place effort at 4:23.19. Connor White followed Byrd in fifth with a result of 4:28.05.
In addition to their second-place showings on the 4x400-meter relay, Robinson took third in the 400-meters and Lewis claimed fifth in the 800-meters. TU's other top-five result came from Derek Van Prooyen, who finished fourth in the 1,000-meters.
Taylor is set to return to action on February 16 at the Hillsdale Invite, before competing in the NAIA National Championships from February 28 through March 2 in Brookings, South Dakota.
